The neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City

The neo-Romanesque Notre Dame Cathedral in Ho Chi Minh City is one of the most prominent historical sites of Ho Chi Minh City. The French colonists constructed this impressive cathedral between 1863 and 1880 and it is famous for its imposing towers being 58 meters in height.

When the French took control of this area of Vietnam, the Roman Catholic Church wanted to found a religious establishment where the French may pray. This was why they laid the foundation stone of a small church on March 28 and the construction works of the cathedral were completed in 1865. Today, the Christian monuments of Ho Chi Minh City became one of the touristic attractions commonly included in many tours to Vietnam.

In August 1876, the governor of the city carried out a competition to choose the best design to construct a cathedral instead of the church. When the finest design was chosen, the French started importing the building materials from France. Even the stones of the red outer wall of the cathedral, which still preserves its original elements, were imported from Marseille. The Cathedral was constructed in three years to be finished on the 11th of April 1880. Many travelers who tour Vietnam would like to explore the art and the architecture of the country.

Afterwards, in 1895, the two famous towers were erected with a height of 57 meters. This is besides the addition of the bronze bell that weights more than 28 tons. Two crosses were also added at the top of the towers to form quite an imposing structure that amazes travelers who come from all over the world to enjoy their vacations in Vietnam.

The Saigon Opera house

Another attraction in the city of Ho Chi Minh is the Saigon Opera House, one of the finest touristic attractions that welcomes several tourists who travel to Vietnam. This is the main opera house in the area. Constructed in 1897, the Saigon Opera House has 800 seats. The building was used from 1956 until 1975 to accommodate the Vietnamese Parliament before it became an opera house again.

Tourists who travel to Vietnam enjoy various performances in the Saigon Opera House including opera shows, classical music concerts, and traditional Vietnamese dances and shows.

The Old City of Hoi An

Hoi An is a marvelous example of a traditional Asian port that was quite well preserved. The city also represents a wonderful model of how various cultures and civilizations mingle together. Many travelers who tour Vietnam enjoy a trip to the old section of Hoi An.

Hoi An has the magnificent remarkable architectural elements of the ports of South Eastern Asia in the 19th and the 20th centuries. This is in addition to this matchless style of narrow lanes and highly decorated streets. The city also hosts some notable historical buildings like the Baguda Buddhism temple, some old houses, and old meeting rooms. All these elements attract travelers who visit Vietnam to explore the city.
