A long trip to India can be the opportunity for a detour to some of the unique destinations in the neighbouring countries. One such location is Nepal towards the north-east situated in the lap of the mighty Himalayas. There are direct flights to the capital Kathmandu and it is about one night journey from either Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh or Raxual in Bihar. If you go by the history books, you would be acquainted with the fact that Nepal is India's closest neighbour both in terms of political friendship and social or economic panorama. The closeness and proximity between these two neighbouring countries can be known from the fact Indian citizens touring Nepal do not require any passport or visa as when travelling to other neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh or Pakistan. The same is applicable for the Nepali people when touring India.
Even when you travel and reach to this mountainous country, there will not be much of a difference in the atmosphere and cultural environment as you would notice when touring to some other foreign destinations. The warmth and intimacy with which the tourists are welcomed by the local people makes them overwhelmed. In Nepal the majority of the population are either Hindus or Buddhists and the amalgamation of both these cultures will make you dip into the Holy waters of devotion. The presence of the Temple of Lord Pushupatinath, an incarnation of Lord Shiva makes it one of the holiest places and a large number of Hindu devotees from India and other parts of the world travel here in large numbers. Lord Buddha was born at a place known as Lumbini before he came to India for Search of Knowledge which is located in Nepal. It therefore makes a famous pilgrimage spot for the Buddhists too.
