New York or The Big Apple is a fun and happening place to plan a visit to. New York City is made up of five boroughs. Manhattan and Staten Island are islands, Brooklyn and Queens are part of Long Island, and the Bronx is attached to the US mainland. The islands are linked to the mainland by tunnels, bridges and ferries. NY is an easily accessible city. A dependable subway system, taxis and ferries are available to take you through the five boroughs. Tourists arriving on New York flights can be transported to the City by airport shuttles; train stations and double-decker buses are also available so transport is never a problem. Being such a happening city, New York always has something fun to offer a tourist. You can scout around the many restaurants and sample great food while navigating the city. Public restrooms are conveniently available even for handicapped people.
Some of the more well known and important places to visit in New York would be: The Empire State Building which is New York's icon. The building has an observation deck from where you can take in the immense city. It is a landmark that draws visitors from all over the world. The Metropolitan Museum of Art is one of the top art museums in the world. Ellis Island is where the history of New York began. Its history is interesting and the Ellis Island Immigration Museum on the island is an interesting showcase of American history. The American Museum of Natural History is also a world renowned museum, which has the Rose Center for Earth and Space, and the Hayden Planetarium. A third important Museum is the Guggenheim Museum. This is a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed structure built to resemble an inverted pyramidal temple. The museum is devoted to works from the 19th century to the present. As can be found in Paris, New York too has a Madame Tussaud's Wax Museum featuring wax replications of famous people.
Besides the above famous sites, other important places to visit in New York would be Coney Island; Central Park is a must if you are a nature lover. It is an 843 acre public area and tours to the Park are free. Brooklyn Bridge was once the tallest North America structure when it opened in 1883. To get a great view of Manhattan you can take a walk on the pedestrian walkway. A central hub of capitalism is The New York Stock Exchange, with the famous Wall Street close by. New York's Grand Central Station is famous worldwide. It has an exorbitant ceiling and the largest example of Tiffany glass in the clock, in the world. A visit to New York is never complete without seeing Times Square, where theatres, animated neon and LED signs dazzle you.
