Tanuku is a town and a municipality in West Godavari District of the Andhra Pradesh State. The municipality was known as Tarakapura the name of which was evolved from Tarakasena, a great ruler who ruled over the Tanuku and its covering regions. This place is majorly associated to the country and its rocket science. It's one of the major hubs which is engaged in producing and supplying of the UDMH-MMH (Monomethylhydrazine), the liquid rocket fuel used for combustion. The most famous of all the tribal families are the Mullapudi and Chitturi families which are still famous in the region of the West Godavari.
Themajor tourist attraction of this place is the Akashganga which is said to be the heavenly Ganges linked to The Milky Way OR heavenly river. The waterfall is about three Kms north of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple which is situated in the hill of the Tirumala. The fall is legendary for the prime reason is that its water is used for The Lord's bath every day in the temple. In the olden days, the priestess took turns to bring the water all the way from this part of forest to the temple in the early morning hours by the coarse walk path that meanders through the wooded area which is still done even to this day.
