One of the most populous cities of the country, Thane was formerly known as Sristhanaka, named after Lord Ganesha. The most popular of all the lakes in the city is the Masunda Talao. Also known as the Talao Pali, this lake is reputed to be the most stunning and offers water scooters and other boating facilities to visitors. One can enjoy the pleasant weather, the gentle breeze, the serene water and stunning views from up close. There are also numerous local food options nearby where food lovers can indulge their taste buds in delicious flavours. A Kopineshwar temple is also located at its banks.
Other popular tourist attractions include the Yeoor Hills which are a pollution free zone, located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This area is also home to 12 species of animals and 78 species of birds. Kelva beach is another scenic spot located in close proximity. Also home to Kelva Fort and Sheetaladevi temple, it stretches for 7 km along the Arabian Sea coastline. The Essel World amusement park which offers a host of rides including roller coasters, bumping cars etc. promises a day filed with fun and laughter. Water Kingdom, which boasts the largest wave pool in Asia is also located nearby.
