If you're an avid traveler looking for an offbeat destination, then look no further than Thane! Located in the state of Maharashtra merely 23KM from Mumbai, a distance which can be covered in under an hour, this lesser known city offers a host of memorable attractions to visit.

One of the most populous cities of the country, Thane was formerly known as Sristhanaka, named after Lord Ganesha. It is also a hub of industrial activity with a number of industrial complexes such as those of chemicals, textiles, engineering products etc. located here. The main feature of this city that attracts tourists are a large number of stunning lakes that are located here.

The best time to visit Thane is from November to March and the city is easily accessible with trains, buses etc. running every day. It also has a diverse range of accommodation options. There are budget hotels in Thane as well as luxury hotels and guest houses.

Thane is home to over 33 beautiful lakes because of which it is referred to as the 'City of Lakes' by the local residents. Some of these lakes include Masunda Talao, Brahmamala Lake, Dawala Lake, Diva Lake, Ambe Ghosale Lake, Kachrali Lake, Upvan Lake, Datiwali Lake and the Hariyali Lake. The most popular of all the lakes in the city is the Masunda Talao. Also known as the Talao Pali, this lake is reputed to be the most stunning and offers water scooters and other boating facilities to visitors. One can enjoy the pleasant weather, the gentle breeze, the serene water and stunning views from up close. There are also numerous local food options nearby where food lovers can indulge their taste buds in delicious flavours. A Kopineshwar temple is also located at its banks.

Other popular tourist attractions include the Yeoor Hills which are a pollution free zone, located in the Sanjay Gandhi National Park. This area is also home to 12 species of animals and 78 species of birds. Kelva beach is another scenic spot located in close proximity. Also home to Kelva Fort and Sheetaladevi temple, it stretches for 7 km along the Arabian Sea coastline. The Essel World amusement park which offers a host of rides including roller coasters, bumping cars etc. promises a day filed with fun and laughter. Water Kingdom, which boasts the largest wave pool in Asia is also located nearby.

Thane is also located close to a number of other attractions including the Titwala Ganesh Mandir, Suddhagad Fort, Jawahar Palace, Matheran etc.
