Another historic hotel, the National hotel, has had a massive transformation in recent years. It was seriously damaged by fire in 2007, which left the outer shell of the historic building but required complete refurbishment inside. The Hougoumont, like the National, is an historic building which has been updated to accommodate the needs of modern tourists. It is located close to the Cappuccino strip, and is also within walking distance of the hotels, museums and shopping spaces. It is also near to other interesting places such as the Roundhouse and Port Beach. With all of this close by, guests can use the Hougoumont as a resting spot between exploration of Fremantle.
