I was sitting in my portico one evening and watch the sun setting from a distance, I just could not help but imagine that in some other part of the world, the sun is just rising in the east and people would be just waking up. Our earth is such a fantastic planet, it has so much beauty to offer. It set me thinking, how the land formation varies from one place to another. How it can be wild and beautiful with dense trees and mountains at one place while having nothing but sand in another part of the world! Which further got me thinking why people travel.

This is a common phrase that many of us use “I want to see the world before I die.” We are so fascinated by the world! What is it that makes people travel and why do they like it so much?

There are many reasons why people travel. It could be as simple a reason as to relax and unwind to a more complicated path of discovering oneself. Learning new things is a package deal that comes along with travelling.

Travelling helps you get away from your mundane hectic life, forget your worry, and re-energizes body and mind, so that you can come back to face your daily life with full energy and enthusiasm. Taking a break from work and travelling helps you in better productivity, think clearly, and focus better on your career and future. Travelling sometimes helps you change the perspective of your life and helps you take clear decisions.

Travelling as a couple or family helps you bond better with your spouse and children. It helps you build a strong foundation for your family to stick together.

Also for some people travelling can make them realize how important home and family are. When they are away from home for a few days, they will become homesick and start missing their home and family. This will make them realize how important their home and family are and they will start valuing it more than ever.

When you travel you get exposed to various new cultures, history of the particular place, and cuisines of that place. You tend to meet a lot of different people from different cultural backgrounds. When you interact with such people, you will be exposed to new thoughts and ideas which otherwise you could never think of. This will open up your creative mind and help you have a broader perspective of the world and makes you more tolerant and patient towards others.

Once you become a well-travelled person, it automatically changes your personality. You will have amassed so much knowledge about all the things you have seen and learnt that you will end up having a vibrant personality with a unique way of thinking. When you tell your stories you will be impressing everybody around you.

Travel is something that requires a lot of organizing and planning, hence it will help you develop your strategy and decision-making abilities. It will help you keep a healthy body and a sound mind that is always alert. You will be able to pay close attention to several things that you would not have been doing earlier.

When you travel as a couple, you will learn to trust each other, learn to compromise, learn to love each other even after all the shortcomings. You will learn to become a team and support each other.

Many people travel alone to discover themselves, they get enough free time to clear their minds and think clearly what they are and what they expect from life. They will be able to meet their own spiritual and philosophical side on their journey to distant and wonderful places. It will help them learn to live in harmony. They will learn to enjoy the smaller things in life and know how to lead a life with and without money. How to lend a helping hand to others. How not to jump to conclusions, etc.

Ultimately travelling helps enrich your life with great experiences and the changes you will see in your personality will be for good and will be permanent. People have long known the benefits of travelling and that is why they do travel.
