One of the most populous cities of the country, Thane was formerly known as Sristhanaka, named after Lord Ganesha. It is also a hub of industrial activity with a number of industrial complexes such as those of chemicals, textiles, engineering products etc. located here. The main feature of this city that attracts tourists are a large number of stunning lakes that are located here.

Thane is home to over 33 beautiful lakes because of which it is referred to as the 'City of Lakes' by the local residents. The most popular of all the lakes in the city is the Masunda Talao. Also known as the Talao Pali, this lake is reputed to be the most stunning and offers water scooters and other boating facilities to visitors. One can enjoy the pleasant weather, the gentle breeze, the serene water and stunning views from up close. There are also numerous local food options nearby where food lovers can indulge their taste buds in delicious flavours. A Kopineshwar temple is also located at its banks.

Also home to Kelva Fort and Sheetaladevi temple, it stretches for 7 km along the Arabian Sea coastline.
