How often have you asked a friend, colleague or relative visiting Delhi to get you something? Woollens, clothes, and what not…Delhi is indeed a great place for shopping, so if you happen to visit the National Capital, don't miss out on visiting the bazaars and shopping centres there. We promise you it is going to be immensely fun! Here are some of the best places for shopping:

  • Dilli Haat: If you love handicrafts, artefacts and handlooms, there is no better place in Delhi than this shopping centre designed like a haat, or a traditional market. Not only will you get the best handicrafts from across the country, you can also gorge on some great food from across India. What's more, the place also offers music and cultural performances.
  • Old Delhi: Talk about Old Delhi, and your mind will conjure up images of Chandni Chowk, where you'll get everything from perfumes to gold, silver and pearls. You can also pick up some nice textiles. The Old Delhi area also has a famous 'Chor Bazaar', where you get everything under the sun!
  • Connaught Place: This circular/horse shoe-shaped market has some well-known brands of jewellery, kurtas, and watches among others.
  • Karol Bagh: This is a delight if you love shopping, from embroidered clothes to well-known brands. There is also a second-hand book store in the vicinity. If you love imported stuff, visit the Ghaffar Market.
  • Khan Market: This is a huge hit among elite Indians and expats. Located in South Delhi, Khan Market is the go-to place for books, branded stuff and cosmetics.
  • Sunder Nagar: If you love antiques and art, this is the place to go to. You could pick up silver jewellery, furniture or some fine teas while here!
  • Hauz Khas: This is yet another upmarket locality with many art galleries and boutiques. You can pick up handicrafts and even some old Hindi film posters here.
  • Sarojini Nagar: This is a popular bazaar and is known for its inexpensive clothes and accessories.
  • Lajpat Nagar: The bustling Lajpat Nagar market is typical of any Indian bazaar, with henna wallahs, salwar suit shops and other roadside stalls selling shoes or handbags jostling for space and attention.
  • Paharganj: If you love Sarojini Nagar or Lajpat Nagar, you are sure to enjoy Paharganj where you can go scouting for inexpensive stuff like clothes, handicrafts or textiles.

Still not satisfied? There are other markets as well – Palika Bazaar is reputed, so is INA Market, Vasant Vihar, Tibetan Market and Janpath. Gurgaon also offers plenty of shopping opportunities, thanks to the glitzy malls and well-known retail brands.
