If you are planning your vacation to Hawaii in the fall, here are a few tips about the weather and clothes that will help you pack better for your vacation.

Hawaii's dry season runs from April to October, so September can be considered one of the best months to find the ideal travel mix of fair weather and fare prices. September can be one of the hottest months in Hawaii, with hurricane weather systems causing humidity in the region. Temperatures typically hover in the 80s and do not dip much below 70 in most locations. September weather in the Hawaiian Islands can be described as very summer-like with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures. Airfare in September is typically highly discounted if you can catch a sale, but still quite reasonable otherwise.

September rainfall levels in Hawaii are generally low – especially when compared to the wetter, winter months. The lowest rainfall averages are normally in June. Though September rainfall levels are just a tad higher than June, they're still low. Different islands get different amount of rains in the fall, for example Kauai – 2.12 inches, Oahu – 1.02 inches, Maui – 0.38 inches, Hawaii Big Island – 0.80 inches, Lanai – 2.09 inches and Molokai – 0.93 inches. However, please do keep in mind that the rains mostly fall in the mountain areas of the islands. For example, Honolulu and Waikiki Beach can get a short warm summer rain where as on the North Shore, in the rain forrest, it can get pretty wet.

When Packing for your Hawaiian vacation both the climate and the culture should factor into your choice of clothes. Hawaiian culture stresses casual clothing, with formal wear saved only for high-end occasions and business meetings. Visitors can wear Hawaiian shirts, T-shirts, tank tops or muumuus (traditional Hawaiian dresses) and feel right at home during the daytime but at nights, a jacket, windbreaker or sweater will serve you well due to the sudden drop in temperature. Take comfortable shoes; sneakers and/or flip-flops, as well as hiking or riding boots if you intended to engage in such activities. Do remember to pack swimsuits, suntan lotion and wide-brimmed hats for keeping the sun off and don't forget your insect repellant, cameras, binoculars and extra batteries if your planning to go hiking in the mountains.
