Chakrata, formerly known as Jaunsar Bawar, is a thriving tourist destination. Ideally residing in the empyreal regions of the Uttarakhand state, the place is undoubtedly a heavenly place that is replete with natural beauty.The hill station is small in size and is now the home to elite frontier force. It is an access restricted Army cantonment, however, the restriction is only for foreign nationals. The town is about 92 Kms from Dehradun, and there are excellent roads connecting the two. There are not too many places to visit in Chakrata, because the town is quite small. However, everything that is available as per tourism point of view, is sufficient enough to provide one a never to forget holiday. Tiger Falls and Deoban are two of the most popular and recommended places to visit in Chakrata. They are a must visit in the town. The Tiger Falls is a breath-taking water ballad with no equal. It is a tall waterfall, the water falls gracefully from the top and forms a pond rendering a lovely effect that simply enhances the picturesque surrounding. It is a great visual delight and a spot to take pictures for bring some memories along.
Deoban is yet another postcard picture like spot in the region. It is about 16 Kms from the town, and is a place surrounded by dense forests and home to large species of animals, birds, and flora & fauna. It is a must-visit place, and kindles the tourists because of its magnificent views. The panoramic views of the great Himalayan Ranges that one gets here is simply unmatched and nostalgic. However, if you are on your way to this place then get ready for the bumpy rides, as the roads is in poor condition.
Other than these two there also exists certain other interesting and beautiful places to visit in Chakrata that one shouldn't miss at all. These include: Mundoli, Kanasar, Hanol, and Moigad Fall. All of these are located on the outskirts of the town, and it will take just a few hours drive to reach them. Other than these, one can also explore the temples, local markets, and art/cultural centres, dotted in the town.
