Rajasthan is the largest state in India in terms of land area which is about 342,239Km squared and this equals 10.4% of the whole of India. The Thar Desert which is also known as the Great Indian Desert runs across this state down to the Sutlej-Indus river valley. The palaces and fortresses found in the state serves as a source of reminder to visitors and its own indigenes of the vast number of kingdoms that have survived in the region. The capital of Rajasthan which is Jaipur popularly known as the pink city is the location of the 18th century city palace and Hawa Mahal. The Hawa Mahal which used to be a walk way for royal women has a 5 storey pink sandstone screen in front of it. Also the Amer Fort which is at the top on a hill was developed in the early 1600 by a Rajput prince.

Rajasthan like many states in the world has a lot of places to visit which are sites for tourist attraction;

  • Jaipur: it is known by its nickname pink city of India because of the buildings which are found there with the distinctive pink color. The design of the city was done in respect to Indian architecture also known as Vedic Vastu Shastra with well organized streets, detailed architecture and also very creative architecture. Jaipur is home to a lot of things from temples to gardens, museums, and even has a number of markets that attracts people to its location. All these features makes Jaipur a must visit location.
  • Udaipur: some people have called Udaipur the Venice of the East, it is also known as the city of lakes. The city is famous for its palaces which portrays the best of Rajputana style of architecture. In recent times these palaces have been converted to top notch hotels and this in turn attracts a lot of people to this side of the country. The state is distinctively located, and at the foothill of the Aravalli Mountains the city has a really attractive look. The city is known for its hospitality, market places, vast number of palaces and its status.
  • Jaisalmer: this city is located at the center of the desert, and this is one of the reasons why it is called the Golden city, the other reason is because of its very attractive view during the day. The city is a stunning tour spot because of its wonderful architectural designs and art works which are quite distinctive to the area alone. The city was originally fenced in with huge walls and this makes it one of the largest fortresses in the whole world. It is also famous for its numerous eateries in which they offer intercontinental dishes ranging from Italian to French and they also have local dishes for interested parties.
  • Pushkar: it is located in the Ajmer area of Rajasthan, the city is known as the king of all pilgrimage sites in India. It is located by the shores of the Pushkar Lake which was said to be created by the tears of lord Shiva and it is also regarded as one of the oldest cities in India. The city is known for its temples and Ghats and also its annual camel fair. The camel fair is a five day fair where trading of livestock is mostly done. Aside from the sales of livestock the fair is also popular for the amount of people drawn to the location to enjoy the music, dancing and other events taking place during the fair.
  • Jodhpur: this is the second largest city in Rajasthan, it is also the second most populated city of Rajasthan after Jaipur. The city is also known as Sun City because of the presence of sunlight all through the year. By location the city is said to be the most important city in the west of Rajasthan because it is only about 250km from the border of India and Pakistan. The city has plenty of hill fortresses, palaces and walled cities and these are just a few of the beautiful things the city has to offer.
