Popular for its scenic natural beauty, Kausani is one of the country's premier summer destinations. Falling within the province of Uttarakhand state, the place is a small tranquil town where exist a number of vantage points giving the best views of the Kumaon region. Nestled atop of a ridge at an altitude of about 1890 meters above the sea level, the town receives a lovely climate almost year long. However, the most popular time for a tour of the town is during April to June, when most of the central India smolders in scorching summer heat. People wear heavy woolens throughout the year, however, light woolens will simply do during summers.

The natural beauty of Kausani is simply appealing. Set in the midst of dense forests of Pine trees, the town is a small hamlet overlooking three beautiful valleys, namely Garur, Someshwar, and Baijnath. It lies on the Almora-Bageshwar-Didihat Highway and is popular for spectacular views of the Himalayan peaks, including Panchachuli, Trisul, and Nanda Devi. Life in the town is quite slow and casual. It has a small population and the locals are ardent believers of the Gods. Like most of Uttarakhand towns, there are several religious legends circling Kausani. The locals are engaged in some petty businesses, farming, and tourism based employments. The town is an ideal destination for spending a relaxed vacation far from the noises of city life.

The town is a popular part of Uttarakhand. Almora, one of the most popular hill stations, is about 52 k.m. south of Kausani. The town serves as an excellent destination for excursion from Almora, thus also sees good waves of tourists. Mahatma Gandhi, the father of the nation, spent some time here and described the town as the “Switzerland of India”. The town is also a well-known place amongst the enthusiasts of Hindi literature. Sumitranandan Pant, one of the most renowned Hindi poets was born here. There is a museum dedicated to him, called the Pant Museum. It archives and showcases the work and life of the famed poet. Besides, one will also find a number of reference on other writers and poets of Hindi literature. When in the town a visit of the museum is a must-do. The good thing is that there are some goodhotels in Kausaniin the vicinity. If one seeks conveniences of connectivity these hotels are an ideal option to pick.

Since the town is small in area, so it doesn't take much time to complete the exploration of its attractions. The nearest airport is in Pantnagar, 25 k.m. from Dehradun. Besides, Kathgodam is the nearest railway station. It is about 142 k.m. away. Roads are the only modes to reach the town. The good thing is that there are taxis and cabs available from the railway station and airport to reach Kausani.

Although the town is yet to receive an influx of modernization, but there is no shortage of hotels and lodges. The budget hotels in Kausani are popular choices amongst the tourists as they are known for offering satisfactory stay at reasonable prices.
