Never has it been less painful, but today, people can see the positivity behind those tragic memories time has created. To recall, here are the Philippine historical places which have soon become a tourist destination:
1.Rizal Park – former Bagumbayan Field, this park was made as a tribute to Jose P. Rizal, the Philippine National hero. This is one of the leading historical sites where Rizal was brought to death by the Spanish military firing squad for the reason of disseminating ideals of revolution against Spanish rule. Today, the place has become a favorite place for unwinding and socializing as well as family bonding and picnics.
2.Corregidor – “the rock” as known by most before, this has become an important tourist attraction. It was when the Japanese and Corregidor invaded the Philippines became the headquarters of the Philippine Forces and the Commonwealth government. Today, the firearms were already silent, but the damage still reflects the war that has claimed so many lives.
3.Intramuros – known as the “walled city,” this place features an almost three – mile-long circuit of stone walls and defensive structures that surrounded almost the entire district. It is the oldest district in Manila where Spanish influences were abundant. Today, visiting the place still gives you the Spanish ambiance. It's like experiencing the past through a neo light
4.EDSA Shrine – also known as the “Shrine of Mary,” “Queen of Peace” and “Our Lady of EDSA,” this is a small church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manila sited at EDSA in Quezon City. It is a monument as a tribute to the first People Power Revolution that overthrew presidencies of the two past presidents in the Philippines. It served as proof that fight for freedom doesn't have to go bloody, but rather through peace talks.
5.Mactan Shrine – also known as the “Liberty of Shrine” it is located in Mactan, Cebu, and is in honor of Lapu – Lapu, Ferdinand Magellan and the remarkable Battle of Mactan. It lies in the very location where the battle took place. Magellan and his fellows were the first to introduce Christianity in the Philippines and traveled around the world to prove that the Earth is not flat.
