The capital of England is one of the most tourist-friendly destinations in the world. Although it is highly progressive, a good part of the city has retained its heritage and cultural icons. There are a wide range of things to do and see in this part of Europe.

Landmarks to See

The city is blessed with numerous landmarks that make touring the city quite difficult to accomplish in one day. The Westminster Abbey ranks as one of the most popular of London landmarks. This is where the crowning of the English monarch is held, a tradition that has been running for more than a thousand years ever since William the Conqueror rose to power. This is also where the well-loved Princess Diana had her funeral.

Another must-visit landmark is the London Eye. This is a Ferris wheel that also happens to be an observation wheel. It is located along the Thames River. Tourists can go on a paid tour to see the ins and outs of the London Eye. Tourists who stay i usually drop by the London Eye before touring the city.

The Parliament is another popular landmark in the city. This is where members of the UK parliament hold office, and where anyone, tourists and locals alike, can witness debates and hear committee hearings. Tourists who prefer to photograph the building may find the best view of the building at the Thames River.

This is the main waterway in London where the London Bridge crosses. Other interesting attractions, like the Hampton Court, are also found on the banks of the Thames River. Proof that London has retained most of its heritage is the abundance of castles in the city. The Buckingham Palace may just be the most popular castle in London. It is the official residence of members of the British Monarchy in London. The popular ceremony Changing of the Guards also takes place at the Buckingham Palace. Tourists who are itching to see other castles can visit nearby areas of London, like Cardiff, Wales. After checking in at one of the many Cardiff hotels, tourists can start touring castles in Cardiff, like Fonmon Castle, Cardiff Castle, and Castell Coch.

Entertainment

Visitors in London should go to any of the many theaters in the city to appreciate the quality of performing arts in the UK. The London theatre district is home to many of the best artists in the world. Some of the best theatres in the city are the Lyceum Theatre, Theatre Royal, Theatre Museum, London Palladium, and Shakespeare's Globe Theatre.

London is also dotted with museums. Tourists who appreciate history can visit any of the more than 200 museums, which include the British Museum, Imperial War Museum, and Victoria and Albert Museum.

Shopping

Any tourist who has been to London will agree that the city is a shopper's haven. It has everything from luxury stores to those selling old clothes. Tourists can also head to nearby areas, like Milton Keynes. After checking out and booking on one of the many Milton keynes hotels, tourists should shop at the many stores in the area.
